SHIT, IT'S ALREADY MARCH ESSENTIALS

I forgot it's 3rd month of the year already, as I was finishing some reading. I'm also broke and hate my bank account details = nil.
But I was lucky enough to listen to these. You should as well.

THE FREAKY DIFFERENCE

Well I certainly didn't expect such an outburst of greatness. I mean, I obviously like The Freaks, I enjoyed Rekids singles (Claude Von Stroke's remix of "Ghouls" comes up in my head), but Luke Solomon's brand new 13-tracker "The Difference Engine" tops all this, and does something more. It's actually more house punk than deep funk, angular dada edge there all the time. And possibly one of this year's more important releases. I won't upload anything from the new record here, but I did a quick overview of whatever Luke Solomon-wise is out there.
++ An interview with Cosmic Disco: on Bristol as a new Berlin, working with spacedisco behemoth Daniele Baldelli, trippin' on Fripp and the like. It comes with a cosmic sound mix .
++ No less than about 20 mixes for Garageband.com. Will take much of your waking time if you're so disposed.

DAMA DO BLING DESCENDS FROM DA CHOPPA

There's no end to chance discoveries. Dama do Bling hails from Mozambique, effectively does her own version of Afro-crunk, even though videos.antville.org called her "Mozambique's Lil Kim". Well certain surface similarity could be there but apart from that it's totally different, and at least equally kicking. She also won Channel O Spirit of Africa Music Video Award last October for this song, so it must be popular and all. Crude but informative Wiki on Mozambican music, and fantastic Esta Bater blog where you can download some of the recent heat that's played over there. Apparently, a lot has changed since Ron and Ophera Hollis were filming their ethnomusicological footage in the late 70s.

54NDW1CH FROM DOWNUNDER

Just found this curious crunkey mashup guy called Gregg Sandwich, or alternately 9R399 54NDW1CH - shit, it's like some excessively complicated postal code for Crocodile Dundee's alcoholic neighbor. Anyway, he's here and it says:

***Gregg Sandwich: one head of the Hydra that is Bad Teeth and long standing C.E.O. of Mash-Ups Division. Pressing the soul out of classics in his jaffle-iron-production-line faster than a George Foreman grill on heat. The Gregg Sandwich portable buffet consistently turns bread and butter house parties into gourmet baguette-fests. Gregg releases are available at any good black market sandwich bar on 12” or 6”. Come and see Gregg slicing and dicing live in Sydney’s dankiest dwellings - you’ll be hungry for more.
BYO cheese.***

There are mixes for your perusal - anything that manages to cram Ace of Bass (Base?!) and Too Short is good in my book. And be sure to check Havefunclub post here, where three sandwich slices are nicely set up and profusely mayonnaised. With a thin slice of Baltimore cheese, obviously.

RUSTIE REVISITS TWO D'S

After last year's phenomenal "Jagz The Smack" EP, finally something fresh from Glaswegian TropicalHardcoreBlues artist Rustie (here and here and here, too). OK, I'm superlazy so let me quote the Stuff Records press release:

****
The Café De Phresh EP sees our man team up with California MCs Buddy Leezle and Cerebral Vortex from 215 The Freshest Kids for a record inspired by the two Ds - Drexciya and Dilla. On Side A Leezle and Vortex let loose all over Rustie's beats, reminding us that hip-hop is about partying, ladies and most of all having a dope sneaker collection. We kept the B-side for the instrumentals: think Drexciya style synth flourishes meets low-end dirty hip-hop swagger – Aquacrunk, as we like to call it. The first 500 records come in a screen printed 80s graffiti inspired sleeve created by Stuffrecords' in-house designer and DJ, Goodhand (creator of the Flying Lotus reset game). Support so far from Mark Pritchard, DJ /Rupture, Phon.O, Modeselektor, Jay Scarlett, Neil Landstrumm, Mary Anne Hobbes and more.
****

A couple of (very decent quality, 1:30 m) previews of the new platter: A1. Cafe De Phresh A2. Mic Of The Year A3. Just 4 Kicks A4. Patrick Ewing B1. Patrick Ewing (inst.) B2. Just 4 Kicks (inst.) B3. Cafe De Phresh (inst.) and Rustie's intense Gutterish mix of 11/06 from North South Divide. Finally, more writeup and general goodness (including more music to dl) from Lazerus Pit
and DubbedUp

(And the core info came from one-and-only Low B Forum. Big Ups)

YILA&SCROOBIUS PIP GO ASTRO

This is new ditty from Essex producer Yila and beard freak/beat poet Scroobius Pip, and me likes it instantly. It's just out on 7" from Sunday Best. Besides all, this guy took his name from a poem by inimitable Edward Lear.

The Scroobious Pip went out one day
When the grass was green, and the sky was grey
Then all the beasts in the world came round
When the Scroobious Pip sat down on the ground
The cat and the dog and the kangaroo
The sheep and the cow and the guineapig too--
The wolf he howled, the horse he neighed
The little pig squeaked and the donkey brayed
And when the lion began to roar
There never was heard such a noise before
And every beast he stood on the tip
Of his toes to look a the Scroobious Pip
At last they said to the Fox - "By far,
You're the wisest beast! You know you are!
Go close to Scroobious Pip and say,
Tell us all about yourself we pray-
For as yet we can't make out in the least
If you're Fish or Insect, or Bird or Beast."
The Scroobious Pip looked vaguelyy round
And sang these words with a rumbling sound-
Chippetty Flip; Flippetty Chip;-
My only name is the Scroobious Pip.

DJ C SAMURAI MIXES

DJ C has just posted his 2-part mix for Samurai FM. As expected, it has a bit of everything: AC/DC, bhangra, reggaeton, Pixies mashups, Baltimore and Balkanika. Truly amazing journey through the realness of world music as it should be! And while being there, don't forget to download Murderbot tape for january '08 (inclusion of Rick Astley refix and Jiri Ceiver in one session sounds truly memorable).

YAHH UK

New Soulja Boy single - the UK edition has remixes by Wideboys. Perhaps not terribly essential but at least one of the tracks I found useful.

PARTY BEN CALLS OUT

Extraordinary mashup wizard Party Ben has just created a 5-pack of his reworks of a classic "Callin' Out" by Lyrics Born. It's not only remastered and polished to the max but also includes "brand new crazy techno mix" colliding the abovementioned track with guess guess "Ross Ross Ross" by Sebastian. Stuttering insanity all over. Detailed write-up, zshare of the whole thing plus separate tracks here.

Bonus Track: SebastiAn vs. Lyrics Born - "Callin' Ross"

FRIENDS GIVE ME BREAKCORE 7"S. I TAKE.

My dawg Mac HD is blogging like crazy. Among all the Koopa singles and most horrible Keith Richards pics he tend to post I located a link to this massive blog with d'n'b/dubstep/breakcore records galore. He found there some vintage jungle stuff that I'm to absent-minded to care about, while I found new Rotator vs Cardopusher 7 inch on a new French label Brothers In Blood. Quite noisy and disjointed, too.

KLIPZ WID KIDZ

Two newish vids by Justice ("Phantom II") and Larry Tee ("I Love U"). The latter is talked about much, with Missing Toof posting sweet summary with remixes by The Bulgarian, Christopher Just, Bart B More, Sebastian Leger and Swanque. For some reasons (grown-ups are disgusting?) both videos feature fair amounts of kid-related footage. It's all about lil girls. Justice one reminds me of bad 1990 zombie flick "Demon Wind". Not exactly the same thing but certain atmosphere is there.

NAYCKI INDUSTRY'S LOCAL THUNDER

I know exactly nothing (well in fact now I know a bit) about "local" riddim producers Naycki Industry, apart from the fact that everyone here spits some sort of crazy versh of French. And riddim itself is this jittery hyperenergetic thing that's not quite dissimilar from some Kuduro and Caribbean style productions. Good stuff, all over the place, apparently a debut from that crew.

Personally, I could use one track with female vocals, but who I am to complain?

U DON'T NEED VERNACULARS

Fast-moving fuzz-themed vid from Skepta, with guests drops by Trigga, Spyda and mighty Roll Deep MC Flowdan. Features airhorns galore, gangsta behavior and really nasty synth lines. This is going to break big anytime soon.

FUNK LIKE MAN (RECORDINGS)

Last minute discovery: XLR8R has a new podcast, this time slightly hotter than usual, featuring an exclusive mix by Berlin funkeiro Daniel Haaksman, guy responsible for Edu K records and great Funk Mundial vinyl series but also Nao Wave - obscure 80s bleepwave comp. Oh, I forget to add it all comes out on his own Man Recordings imprint. Don't sleep. Snoring is bad for your heart.

SHAKE YR CRAZY LEG

New voice of Baltimore. As totally endorsed by heads and academics alike - see PDF file of an enlightening paper published in December 2007 Journal of Popular Music Studies (by way of Government Names blog).

DJ Blaqstarr & Rye Rye - Shake It To The Ground

MORE TODDLA T FIYA

Everyone's favorite post-hyper-dancehall Sheffield producer Toddla T, remixed last November by Count of Monte Crystal and Sinden, is at it again. Mad Decent just published Sinden's Kiss FM show of 16/01 with Toddla T in the mix. It is all here in its exciting entirety, while ever-so-better Fact magazine of London has a new section called "Clicks, Whistles and Radio Rips" where among extensive coverages of Grime mixtapes you've never heard of, they have Toddla T's recent mix with DJ Pipes for their Kabal club NYE Party (hefty 150mb dl so be prepared). Sheffield Steel Town Reprazent!!!

I NEED CURSES!

This is what I need at the moment, some shitty quality samples included on the page. Just out on Trouble And Bass.

MISTER WONDERFUL IS OVER

NY Times Sunday Magazine's Funny Pages just published last 20th installment in Daniel Clowes "Mister Wonderful" series. PDF files of the whole series up for grabs, registration required.

SIMS DO SMELL YO DICK (AND MORE)

It seems everybody should know this (Riskay ft. Aviance) tune by now, and this vid IS NOT the official one. But still, confusing and worth viewing.

There's also uber-nerdy version, something it's equally as hard to see as it was probably for this guy to perform it. Oh boy.

If that's not enough yet, I'll throw something which is finally more serious. Real black hermeneutics here, ladies and gents.

Concluding on olfactory control topic, there's this Bmore version by Gold Brix, though I swear I can hear traces of old FunkNeurotico tune called "Feira De Acari" (guess it had something to do with DJ Marlboro). Or maybe I got it totally wrong, who knows?

Riskay - Smell Yo Dick (Gold Brix Remix)

DA BIZZLE OFFERS YOU TO GET WRAPPED

Pow! It's new Lethal Bizzle vid, but somebody tells me it's from last year's album. Angry as usual, and features Ghetto. "Video very hard", they say on the forums.

THANK YOU JAY D ACT 3 UP

Newest, 3rd installment of J Rocc's Jay Dilla tribute is up in Stones Throw jukebox.

SOME LIL INDUSTRIAL JEOPARDY PIX

I had some small accumulation of matchbox labels once. That was ages ago, and is forgotten. However, this guy's collection makes so much more sense. Cutting edge of Commie design.

NICHE CHICKS MAKE ME SALIVATE

So this is the bassline thing that's all over the place now. Not horrible at all.

BEER AND BASS

Two large dollops of vintage Miami Bass rips on SergDun's Beer And Rap blog. Includes such mind-boggling ditties as Disco Rick's 'Fuck Around The Clock'. Unmissable.

Speaking of which, there's a couple of vids as well:

BUN B GETS G

The single is already making rounds. Don't know where. Check recent DUBCNN 2-part mammoth interview with Bun B instead. Stay trill.

KRAMES HAS BORIS VALLEJO IN PAIN

Brand new mix by DJ Krames. Has Haddaway and Modeselektor inside, among others. Here.

KOMISSAR'S AFTERLIFE

Crazed Wiener Neustadt mashupist DJ Schmolli celebrates late/great Falco's death 10th death anniversary with his 'Falco re:loaded' project. Get some exquisitely made tracks - well, in fact get the whole mp3 album! - where you get one-and-only opportunity to hear Falco cum the likes of Beanie Sigel, Shakira or AC/DC. Real slick job if you aske me so don't sleep on it!
